Google Business Profile : How to Ensure Your Listings Data Takes Priority

Created by Michael Caulfield, Modified on Tue, 4 Feb at 7:36 AM by Michael Caulfield

Yes, Google Business Profile (GBP) can overwrite Listings data.

If you make updates directly in GBP instead of the Paydough dashboard, the changes in GBP will not be overwritten by Listings in your Paydough dashboard.

According to Google’s policy, any updates made by the owner in GBP take priority, and Listings data will not replace it.

To maintain consistency, it's important to allow Listings to detect when a field is out of sync and let the directory process the update.

What to Do if GBP is Overwriting Your Listings Data

If you notice that GBP is overwriting your Listings and you prefer Listings to be the primary source of information, follow these steps:

  1. Change the hours in Listings to any different value.
  2. Sync the data.
  3. Re-enter the correct values in Listings.
  4. Sync the data again.

This process ensures that the latest information from Listings will be sent to Google and populate your GBP

Best Practices

To avoid any discrepancies, it's best not to update fields directly in GBP. Always use Listings to update all data, and refrain from making similar updates in your GBP account.
